Pottery Barn Inspired Guest Bedroom Before and After
Looking for guest bedroom inspiration? This amazing guest bedroom before and after is inspired by Pottery Barn decorating ideas, so you get get the Pottery Barn look for less money…way less!
I’ve been so excited for this room, but I’ve been putting it off because it’s such a big, boring, empty room – it took some planning to get it right.
// the before
Unfortunately, this guest room is the darkest room in the house because it’s in the basement and the lighting is not so good down there.
There is one window, but its just SO dark, which is a huge challenge because you definitely don’t want guests feeling like they’re being put in a dungeon of a room.
I also feel the window well is very visible, so a thicker sheer may be necessary on that window.
So, how are we going to fix this problem?
// the inspiration
I was inspired by some images I saw on the Pottery Barn website and used the images below as my inspiration for the room.
I already have light colored walls and white trim in the room, which will help us out. But we can brighten this up even more with bedding, light colored furniture, brighter curtains and adding more lighting in the room. I’ll swap out any grey in the room for white or off-white, like the headboard, bed skirt and curtains.
The light fixture has to go, it is…blech. Plus, it’s way too small to add enough light for this huge room. More lamps in the room will help with that problem, as well.
I also think adding a large mirror in this room will help to reflect any light we do get from that one window. I have one giant wall to fill, so that mirror may be the perfect fix.
I’m going for a Hamptons, coastal vibe without being straight up beach cottage, because I’m pretty far from any beach here in Colorado and I don’t want it to be awkward. But the blues and whites will give the room the crisp elegant look I’m going for.
// the after
Here are some photos from the after.
There’s also a bathroom in the room, which makes it the perfect guest suite. That bathroom also gets a makeover in this video.

I did use lots of Amazon finds to achieve this high end nautical look. I’ll link those items right here, in case anything caught your eye in the video.

How about some Target Dollar Spot crafts and Dollar Tree coastal transformations. We’ll be putting together tiered tray miniatures to decorate our little coastal vignette.
