// heart wall hanging
With the first DIY, we’re going to use something old and something new…both from Dollar Tree. Last year I did black and white Valentine’s Day DIYs and this was part of one of those projects. I’m disassembling it, but will leave that rope loop at the top because we are still going to want to hang this.
I found both of these hearts at Dollar Tree. I think they will look really nice layered together.
You can find lots of different patterns of contact paper at Dollar Tree. I’m going with a grey and white one because it’s neutral enough to go with lots of different styles of decor.
I stuck the wooden heart onto the sticky side of the contact paper and then used an exact knife to trim along the edge.
I added a coat of pink paint to the unfinished heart and then attached those two hearts together…aww, how sweet.
You were probably wondering what I was going to do with that ugly hole in the middle of the sign! Well, here’s my solution…some greenery and light pink florals.
I found a wooden arrow at Dollar Tree and painted it to match the heart and attached that to the top. I would recommend a combo of hot glue to get that quick hold and then a little E6000 to get that long term hold.
I picked these 3D letters up from the Target craft section and you can also find 3D letter stickers at Dollar Tree. I went with the silver letters because they will tie in with that grey contact paper.
I hung the heart sign on my glass office door with a wreath door hanger and it looks so festive!
// heart shadowbox
For our next project, we’ll be using this 5x7 shadow box. I have had this for awhile and it was part of a set of 3. I picked up the set of shadowboxes on Amazon. If you don’t have a shadow box frame like this, you could use a frame over the top of an empty box to get the same effect.
I put together this sign together in Illustrator and printed it out. I’ll add the printables to the end of this post, in case you want to keep reading.
For the two slightly smaller hearts, I folded the paper and then glued it together and then trimmed out the heart with scissors.
Gently score a line down the center of the heart. I use a very sharp X-acto knife, but I’m just barely pressing down, so it creates just a score not a cut. Then fold that in half and smooth that edge down.
I used a thin line of glue to attach our 3D heart to our flat sign.
I cut some checkered ribbon at angles on the edges and used a bit of hot glue to secure it to the frame. I plan on re-using this frame again so I’m not going too crazy with the glue.
And here is how the final Valentine’s Day shadow box came out. You could hang it on a wall or set it up on a table. It looks so pretty either way.
// home is where the heart is
Can you tell I like to upcycle my old projects? I make so many DIYs, it would be wasteful to not re-use the materials because I can’t display so many things at once!
This was a countdown to Christmas calendar I had made. You can find this wooden house in the 5 dollar section at Dollar Tree. It was a natural wood color originally, but it has had a few lives since then.
I created a sign for the new front of the house. This will be in the free printables that are at the top and bottom of this post. There is a really subtle wood grain in the background, although it’s hard to see in my photos.
Then I traced the house and trimmed it out. I used Super 77 spray mount to attach that to the front of the house.
I decided to make this more Valentines-y, I would paint the sides of the house a light pink. It took a couple coats to fully cover that brown color.
I wanted a little heart to be coming out of the chimney…oh and by the way I had added that chimney by cutting a Jenga block at an angle and glueing it to the top of the house. I used some of my Dollar Tree felt and cut out 2 hearts. I think sewing this would have been a better option but I used my glue gun to make a little heart pillow.
For the finishing touch, I added a little ribbon to the front and then added a bow.
Here are those printables again, just in case you want to follow the tutorial and make these for yourself.

How about some Target Dollar Spot crafts and Dollar Tree coastal transformations. We’ll be putting together tiered tray miniatures to decorate our little coastal vignette.
