// Valentine’s Day Pom Pom Banner
We’re going to be making a sweet little Valentine’s Day garland to dress up the fireplace mantle. I had bought these pom pom makers on Amazon awhile back, but used them for the first time for this project. They came with a bunch of different sizes, but we will be using the two middle sizes for this garland.
It was actually quick and relaxing making these pom poms. My one cat isn’t usually playful and he had fun with the yarn, but my other cat was not amused.
I’m going to do a soft pink, grey and white theme for all 3 projects today. Let me show you real quick how these pom pom makers work.
You wrap both sides until they are full with yarn.
Then close those two “arms” back to the center. You will want some small sharp scissors to cut along the middle of both sides.
Then I took a piece of yarn and tied a double knot on both sides.
Now you can open it up and this actually comes entirely apart to release the pom pom. The last step is fluffing it up and trimming off any pieces that are sticking out.
Here is the size difference.
Ok, now that we have our pom poms, let’s make the banner. I think I will simply have this say “love”.
I found this grey contact paper at Dollar Tree and am sticking it onto some poster board. I have been using Dollar Tree contact paper a lot lately!
I put this love sign together and you can fill out the form below, if you want to download it for free.
I cut out the ovals and then used Super 77 to glue them to the contact paper.
Next, I measured the space where I will be putting my banner and cut the yarn to size.
Then I used a hole punch to attach the yarn and then added those pom poms we made.
Here is the final price for this banner. If you already have the pom pom makers, this would be super cheap to put together. Dollar Tree does have yarn, so you can get quite a bit of yarn for super cheap there.
// Heart Topiaries
Next we’ll be making 3 cute heart signs. I am using an automotive cloth from Dollar Tree and just cutting little heart shape outs and then roughly sewing them together.
By the way, I post regularly over on Instagram, so if you want to be friends over there too, you can find me @artsycupcake1.
I flipped those hearts inside out and then stuffed with this old pillow stuffing I’ve been using. And then I sewed up that open edge, but left a tiny hole open at the bottom because that is where we will be placing the dowel.
I found these gift boxes at Dollar Tree and picked up 3 of them. We are just going to use the lids for this project.
I want to to put this Dollar Tree dowel through the top here and then we will be attaching the hearts on top of the dowels. So, I used an X-acto knife to cut a hole in the top of that lid.
I want the 3 hearts to be displayed at different heights, so I cut the dowels with a saw.
I wrapped the dowels with some pink yarn and left a little room unwrapped at one end where we will be pushing it back through that lid.
The other end is gently glued into the bottom of that heart.
I spray painted these lids in cream and grey shades and then added a little ribbon I found at Dollar Tree. All that is left to do is assemble everything together.
And here is the cost for the items we used for this project:
// Valentine’s Day Pink Floral Arrangement
I had put together this little candy dish for a Christmas hot cocoa bar and that hot glue for the pom poms was really stuck on there, so I wanted to share how I got them off so I could reuse this candy dish for a Valentine’s Day floral arrangement.
First, I used a blow dryer to melt the glue and that got the pom poms off, but I was left with a sticky residue on the plastic. I made my own “Goo Be Gone” by mixing 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and three tablespoons of baking soda into a paste and rubbing it on the glue. I washed it off with warm water and this candy dish looks good as new! Plus, I have a lot of that all natural “Goo Be Gone” for another day.
After putting a coat of flat off-white paint on here I think this candy dish looks super elegant. Here’s the before and after.
I got this pink ribbon at Michael’s during their Christmas sale and was thinking of wrapping it around the edge but decided just a bow on the front would look better. I tacked that bow down on all the corners. I think it looks so cute – like a little feminine bow tie.
Then I added some of these moss stones from Dollar Tree and a few pink florals I also found at the Michael’s Christmas sale.
Here are the prices for everything. I’m not sure if those flowers will be at your Michael’s, but Dollar Tree has tons of great floral options. I have a lot of their pink florals and they are really high quality too.

How about some Target Dollar Spot crafts and Dollar Tree coastal transformations. We’ll be putting together tiered tray miniatures to decorate our little coastal vignette.
