If you’re new to Artsy Cupcake, welcome! I’m Maria and I’m a full time graphic designer, so being creative is something I embrace so much, I went and made a career of it. When im not doing my full-time, I share fashion look books, home DIY’s and recipes (with some cupcakes in there too)!

I’m so excited about Fall coming because it sure gets hot in the Texas summers and I am OVER IT! The first day of Fall is September 23, so this is the perfect time to hit up Dollar Tree, and let me tell you they had some gooood stuff! They had so many beautiful blooms in the brightest of colors. Fall doesn’t have to be all oranges and browns, so I am going to show you how to bring in lots of colors for Fall, while still getting that festive Autumn feel. Dollar Tree also had some really cute non-floral Fall decorations. I know the seasonal stuff goes quick there, so make sure to check it out before they sell out.

// step 1

get your container

Let’s get into this DIY with the perfect container. I found the cutest little pot from Dollar Tree and did a little painty-painty on it. I think it came out really nice looking and it was pretty easy. I wanted a hand painted look, and something that would not clash with all the bright florals I was planning on using.

// step 2

add the styrofoam

The next thing I did was cut up some styrofoam that came in a package I got. It doesn’t have to be perfectly cut. Cut it into the right shape to fit at the bottom of whatever container you are using.

how to do a floral arrangement

// step 3

arrange florals

So, with floral arrangements, it can be tricky because you want symmetry, but you want organized symmetry. Otherwise, it will just look like a mess! So, what I do is copy what I do on one side of the arrangement onto the other side. BUT I am not too strict about it. I just try to make the whole piece look balanced.

// step 4

accent the rest of the centerpiece

I loved the little white pumpkins I found at Dollar Tree, but I wanted the stems to be gold to match the gold paint I had used on the pot. I just pulled the stems out and painted each one and then popped those stems right back in there.

// the before

Here is what my dinette looks like normally. This is an anytime of year kind of centerpiece! I had created this Pier1 look alike and saved so much money by doing it myself. I did a tutorial on that if you are interested. You can CLICK HERE for the tutorial!

// the after

Here is the “after” with my dinette table all ready for Fall. I love how this is so bright and colorful, yet still looks really classy and elegant. And even better that it was so low cost to make!
