$600 Z Gallerie Painting for $10 | Recreating Expensive Home Decor

Today we’re going to be recreating expensive wall art from Z Gallerie. It’s amazing what they charge you at the stores, right?! The original price of these blue paintings was $599, but we are going to make them for under $10. This is a fun easy DIY painting project, so keep reading to see how to get the same look for less money in your home. Or watch the video below for a full tutorial!

We are going to start with these templates. You can download these templates below and I even designed them in a way that you could just print them out and frame them, if you don’t have time to paint.

I really encourage you to try to paint them yourself because crafting and doing projects like this is a form of self care. It can really help your mind relax when you do a little creative project. Think of it as “you” time!

Cut out the white space of the template. Now you have something to trace on your 7” canvas

// step 2

Put a few shades of blue, black and white into an artist paint palette, or any flat surface. Also, have a cup of water nearby so you can clean your brush occasionally.

You can get these acrylic paints in various colors at the Dollar Tree. I am going with some foam brushes, but if you are going to play with watercolor, you would want to pick up the more traditional style of paint brushes. I am using 7” canvases from Target, but you could also do this on watercolor paper and place them in some Dollar Tree frames, for another low cost option.

// step 3

I wanted a tie dye type of feeling to the palm leaves, so I tried to work in layers, to give this painting some dimension.

Don’t worry about the outlines, since we are making a somewhat dark painting, the edges will be covered by the paint.

I started with the lightest colors first and worked my way up to the darker colors. Working with a lot of water in some places gave the paint opportunity to spread and mix together, but in other areas I worked with dryer paint. Having this type of variety is what gives the paintings dimension.

Don’t worry about being perfect, just go with the flow and make this art your own. Being creative is all about relaxing, taking time to yourself and having fun.

I kept my inspiration photo on my phone, so I could glance at it occasionally to make sure I was staying on track with my end goal. But really, this is about expressing yourself and doing something that you will be happy with, so no pressure to make it look exactly like mine or the inspiration image!

// theirs vs. mine

So here are mine, which I created for under $10, versus the originally priced $600 version. Let me know in the comments section what you thought…did I nail it?! Now, I have an on-trend set of paintings, featuring the Pantone color of the year – classic blue. And you can too, if you whip out those paints and paintbrushes!
