Review of Trunk Club
I have a quick review for you today. If you’re new to style boxes or are thinking about trying Trunk Club, I want to talk about my Trunk Club experience to help explain how they work, so you can decide if it might be for you. I’m not going to go into details on the clothes I received because they are specifically curated for each individual, so no one will get the same box. But I will explain the process and my experience, so you can get the feel of how they work and if it’s something you would find worth spending money on. I am going to start with the basics of how it works and then go into the relationship with your stylist, whether they hit the mark or not and the quality of the clothes you will receive. // How it works
So first off – how it works. This article is about the at home version of Trunk Club. They do have a Clubhouse program, with locations in Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and New York. This is an in-person experience with a stylist. The version I have tried is the at home version, where you communicate one on one with a dedicated stylist through an app or emails. They have this service for men or women. It costs $25 to have the box styled for you, but if you keep any item, that $25 will be deducted from the total. The whole process from discussing what I wanted, to adjusting the items previewed for my box and then receiving and returning, took about 2 weeks. There are no shipping costs and you have 5 days to try everything on. The packaging is really cute with the box looking like a little suitcase and the items tied up with nice little ropes. It is just really fun to open the box and see what is inside. This isn’t a subscription, so you just order a trunk whenever you feel you need one. The stylists will ask every once in awhile if you need anything new, but they are never pests about it.

So more about the stylists. My stylists got switched 3 times in one year. I don’t know if they quit or if Trunk Club just likes to switch things up. So, even though I had gotten to know my stylist, liked her and felt she had a good understanding of my style – I then had to do this 2 more times. When a new stylist comes on, they do take the time to see the conversation history you had with your previous stylist, but it’s always a bummer because you feel the need to reiterate what your style is and what you need and don’t need in your closet with this new person. It was just a little time consuming and frustrating.
// Did they hit the mark?
So did any or all of these stylists hit the mark on what I was looking for in my trunks? What I like about Trunk Club is that you can take a peek before they ship everything out. So, I was not disappointed because I knew what was coming and I had the opportunity to say no if it looked like something I would not wear. You would think seeing a preview would take away some of the excitement, but it really didn’t because I had that initial excitement when I first saw the preview email. Then I got to request something different or added to the trunk. Then you get to try everything on and that is a lot of fun because you get to see if the stylist found something you wouldn’t have thought of for yourself. I have found a lot of a new brands that I am a fan of now and always go to. For example, Wit and Wisdom jeans and pants fit me so well and I may never have found them had I not done Trunk Club. I have not ever had a style box show up that I kept every single thing. But finding little nuggets like that Wit and Wisdom brand made this service worth it.
// Quality of clothes
Next, we will talk about the quality of the clothes. Well, the quality is great! They are a subsidiary of Nordstrom, so if you like Nordstrom clothing and customer service, then you will enjoy Trunk Club! I found everything to be of high quality materials and well fitting with no loose stitching. It didn’t look like anyone had tried anything on before me – everything was just in mint condition when I received it. Another point to make here about the Nordstrom association is that you can use your Nordstrom Card for any Trunk Club purchase, and it’ll count toward your next Note. Notes are redeemable at Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack, but not for Trunk Club merchandise. Kind of confusing, but at least you have that perk of it counting towards your next Note. So, the clothing quality is high, which translates to yes – items are a bit more expensive. Since everything is coming from Nordstrom, you can expect Nordstrom prices on everything you receive. On their website they say to expect items to be $100-300 each, which I did not find to be true. You can chat with your stylist about what price range you want to stick to with certain items, like say don’t go over $100 for a pair of jeans. Or try to get as close $50 as you can for a nice top. So, there is some flexibility there.
